Abuja, (An24)- Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja has dismissed the application for stay of proceedings filed by former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh.

The judge has now fixed Tuesday for continuation of Metuh’s trial, which has been on hold for 6 months.

The dismissed application is in obedience to the June 9, 2017, ruling of the Supreme Court.

In the application, Metuh asked the apex court to set aside an earlier decision of the high court, which ordered the defendant to open defence.

However, in his ruling Abang said the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA does not encourage such an adjournment.

Abang also in a separate ruling, dismissed another application seeking the release of the Metuh’s passport, which is in the court’s custody.

The trial had been put on hold due to interlocutory applications by the defence since December 16, 2016, when Metuh called his sixth witness.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is prosecuting Metuh and his company, Destra Investments Limited, before Justice Okon Abang at the Federal High Court in Abuja on seven counts of fraud and money laundering charges.
