The National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, (NIMN) has said it would henceforth enforce the law against unregistered persons or corporate organisations practising the marketing profession illegally  in contravention of the NIMN Act No 25 of 2003.
Act No 25 of 2003  which established the institute vested it with the power to regulate and control marketing practice in Nigeria.
Speaking in Lagos recently at a press conference tagged, “Shaping the Future of Marketing in Nigeria,” the President/Chairman- in- Council of  the institute,  Tony Agenmonmen, noted that  there are thousands of unregistered marketing professionals practising illegally in the country said the council is determined to enforce compliance with the institute’s Act.
“There are thousands of marketing professionals who are not registered with institute. By position of the law, they are clearly in violation of the NIMN Act and currently practising illegally.
“The current council is now fully positioned and determined to enforce the provisions of the NIMN Act 2003,” said , Agenmonmen who arguedthat the responsibility for compliance with the Act lies with both  individuals and  companies that employ them.
Agenmonmen added that NIMN would explore reasonable measures to enforce compliance by individuals or corporate organisations who fail to register with the institute or pay their  said the use of force would only be a last resort.
“Our approach to enforcement is to avoid the use of force, except as  a very last resort. We are convinced that it is in the collective interest of all true marketing professionals and marketing organisations to support the efforts to ensure that only true and qualified marketers practise marketing.”
