Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state must go through the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), have decided.
AN24 recalls that Ambode’s political future has been in limbo since the Mandate Movement, a group loyal to Bola Tinubu, the APC national leader, threw up the Managing Director of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to challenge the governor at the party’s primary scheduled for Tuesday.
The governor’s travail had attracted the intervention of the presidency and some governors, including Oyo State’s Senator Abiola Ajimobi that pleaded for a reprieve for him.
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari had met Tinubu and Ambode on different occasions over the matter.
However, despite the meetings, AN24 can report that the Lagos state Governor will have to test his popularity at the APC primary polls to secure a ticket for the Lagos 2019 governorship election.
This decision AN24 understands was taken a few minutes ago by the governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), who met at Tinubu’s apartment on Bourdillon Road in Ikoyi, Lagos.
