APGA Urges Buhari To Tackle Economy

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has asked the President Muhammadu Buhari to take urgent steps to address the ugly state of the nation’s economy.
Participants at the two-day retreat organised by the new APGA national leadership urged the new APC-led administration to speed up the process of establishing structures of government at the federal level, so as to coherently address the deepening crisis in the economy and the security concerns of Nigerians.
“While we believe two months is not a sufficient period to draw conclusions on the capacity and direction of the President Buhari’s administration,  APGA believes the new administration must demonstrate more vigour and urgency on issues affecting the nation’s well-being,” they said.
In a communique issued after the retreat, APGA resolved to end the rancour and recriminations of the past decade in order to build a cohesive, united and progressive national party.
The leaders  pledged to reposition the party to become a clear alternative to all the other parties and “to enable Nigerians utilise the APGA platform as a rallying point for national peace, development and prosperity for all Nigerians in all parts of the country.”
The retreat also resolved to pursue to logical conclusion its governorship mandates in Nasarawa and Abia States, not excluding national and state assembly seats in all parts of the country.
It further resolved to pursue the cause of free, transparent and credible elections in Nigeria as a way of eliminating fraud and manipulation by incumbents and unpatriotic politicians who are bent on ruining the image of our country.
Chief Victor Oye has said the era of division and in-fighting in the party over leadership positions is gone forever.
Oye told leaders of the party  who gathered in Abuja for the first ever retreat for the National Working Committee and zonal and state chairmen, that the party will under the new dispensation reward resourcefulness and hard work.
“The era of division and in-fighting in our party s gone forever. We are in a new era where love will prevail and hatred banished, resourcefulness and hard work will be richly rewarded, party discipline entrenched as a creed, and constant interaction and capacity-building sustained as ethos,” he said.
He challenged party members to eschew bickering, tendentious outbursts, bad blood and festering animosity and embrace each other as brothers and sisters.
He also tasked the leaders to come up with the best strategies to sustain and possibly surpass the successes achieved in the past 13 years and to see how to deploy talents and available resources for the development of the party.
As part of moves to reposition APGA, the national chairman said the leadership has set in motion a machinery for the revalidation of existing membership and registration of new members.
He said the party had commenced the production of one million membership cards to be distributed to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He further said each of the cards would be procured at the cost of N100.
While welcoming party leaders to the retreat, Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, challenged them  to transform APGA into a leading political party in Nigeria, vowing to take up the task expansion to all the states of the federation.
