Here’s the full text of the press statement:

Greetings to you gentlemen and ladies of the Press.

We are unhappy and uncomfortable with the security situation in the State. And we received, with rude shock, the news of the kidnapping of our respected elder statesman Chief Olu Falae (former Secretary to the Government of the Federation) on his 77th birthday. This devious act is dangerous, barbaric and unacceptable to us.

Sometimes ago, an academic Don, Prof. Albert Ilemobade, former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Akure, (FUTA) was murdered in cold blood; a woman was allegedly shot dead by a police officer in Oke-Aro area of the state capital; series of raping and robbery cases all over the state is becoming alarming and unbearable.

About 3 weeks ago, specifically on 2nd of September, 2015, around  Chief Olu Falae’s farm in Ala village, Akure North local government area of the state, a farmer, Mr. Adediran Adejo was kidnapped from his farm. Adejo was in captivity for several days, and was not released until a ransom was paid to his abductors.‎

Governor Olusegun Mimiko, being the Chief Security Officer of the State, the Ondo State Police Command, and other security agencies have adequate information and notice about this kidnapping and other criminal activities in this area and across the state, but they are lackadaisical about these developments. ‎

APC investigation revealed that, a whooping sum of N1.5 billion ‎is being deducted as Security Vote from the state’s treasury on a monthly basis. If this amount is committed to securing lives and properties, this dastardly act would have abated. We don’t want to believe that the Security Vote is going into private pockets as been speculated!

The kidnapping of Chief Falae, been the second within a period of three weeks in this particular area, Ala village, is totally unacceptable and it is an indictment on Governor Olusegun Mimiko, the Police and other security agencies for lackadaisical attitudes and dereliction of duties.

The fire brigade approach on the current manhunt of this kidnappers, is because an icon, prominent and famous Nigerian is the latest victim of this evil act of kidnapping.

We hereby, call on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, Directorate of State Security, the Army Headquarters and other security agencies to work assiduously with Ondo State Police Command and other security agencies to ensure Chief Olu Falae is unconditionally released, unhurt, hale and hearty. Security should be beefed up in and around Ondo State for the safety of lives and properties; to forestall future occurrences by the arrest and prosecution of these criminals, called kidnappers.

The unguarded statement of PDP, through attention seeking and noise making Femi Fani-Kayode or Olu-Kayode, as the case may be, that Aso Rock is responsible for the security lapses in Ondo State, is barbaric, reckless, unwise, and mark of ignorance on his part about the organogram and working of security networks.‎

Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, been the Chief Security Officer of Ondo State must produce Chief Olu Falae within the next 72 hours, and to ensure adequate security to eradicate the activities of these kidnappers and other vices in our dear state. APC prays for the safe return of our esteemed icon, Chief Olu Falae.

Thank you gentlemen and ladies of the Press for your time.

God bless Ondo State and Nigeria!‎‎
