A commercial bus popularly known as ‘danfo’, heading to Ikeja from Oshodi bursts into flames as a result of the reserved petroleum product ‘fuel’ stored in a Jerry-can at the booth of the bus.
In a bid to safe the bus from burning, the driver ran to a nearby filling station at Ladipo bus-stop, Agege motor-way, to get fire extinguisher.
On his arrival, the bus was already up in flames as the fire extinguisher he collected from the filling station was empty.
AN24 can authoritatively report that no lives were lost in the encounter, as all passengers on board, vacated the bus before the flames begun.
However, the Lagos state fire service which arrived 25 minutes after the incident had occurred, could not open the lock of their water pile for another 20 minutes, watching the bus to raze down completely..
Sympathizers who had gathered to support the driver in a bid to put out the inferno, threatened to stone the Lagos State fire officials if they would not be able to do something.
AN24 spoke with one of the passengers, Abimbola Tunde, who condemned the action of the driver and conductor, saying:
“We where coming from Oshodi, when he said he was short of fuel, he pleaded with us to allow him get fuel, that was before we got to Ladipo, instead of the ‘conductor’ to keep the fuel safe inside the bus, he kept it in the booth and before we could say jack, smoke started coming out of the bus, that was how we ran out. I really thank God for my life and I will give a testimony in church tomorrow”.
After so many failed attempts, the Lagos State fire service, finally quenched the fire, making the road accessible again after the incident.
