The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), has promised each player of the Dream Team VI N1,040,000 million equivalent to $4000 USD, if they should defeat the Algerian under 23 team in today’s Afcon final.
It can be recalled that the players were paid the Naira equivalent of $3,000-a-man for the semi-final victory against host Senegal, $2,000-a-man for the opening-day win over Mali, and $1,000 for the draws with Egypt and Algeria.
The Samson Siasia led team were also paid $100 per day for the 10 days training in Gambia prior to the championship in Dakar, Senegal.
The match which will kick off 20 GMT, which is 8 pm Nigerian time, will produce the 2015 Under 23 African Cup of Nations champion.
However, if the players fail to defeat the Algerians, they will not be paid a dime according to an official statement from the team camp.
“It’s winner-takes-it-all. So we have to give everything to be champions tonight,” an official of the team said.
The Dream Team qualified for the final after Warri Wolves striker Oghenekaro Etabo, penalty kick on the 77th minutes against Senegal, secured a 1-0 victory for the team.
Although the team remain unbeaten going into tonight’s final against Algeria, the leaky defense might be a stumbling block to the team defeating the Algerian under 23 team, after conceding 4 goals in four matches.
