The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and the incumbent governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson as the winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.

Dickson was declared winner after scoring 134,998 votes compared to All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Timipre Sylva, who scored 86,852 votes respectively.

It can be recalled that the Independent body declared the election inconclusive in December 5, 2015 after violence erupted in Southern Ijaw which led to the cancellation of poll in that local government area.

However, INEC subsequently fixed January 9, 2016 for a supplementary election in the affected local government and some polling units in other local governments where election did not hold on December 5.

Although the supplementary election was marred with violence, ballot box snatching as well killings of the people of Bayelsans, the election has produced a winner in the person of Mr. Dickson of the PDP.

APC: 86,852
PDP: 134,998.
