United States President, Barack Obama, has taken a swipe at the Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump for his anti-muslim comments he made late last year.
Obama who was speaking at his last State of the Union Address, accused Trump of playing into the hands of the Islamic State. The President maintained that insulting Muslims hurt the United States and ‘betrayed’ it’s identity.
“When politicians insult Muslims, that doesn’t make us safer, it’s just wrong. It diminishes us in the eyes of the world. It makes it harder to achieve our goals.” He said.
Obama who acknowledged that ISIS as well as Al Qaeda pose a direct threat to the United States Citizens, argued that the fight against the Militant group should not be compared to World War Three.
“Masses of fighters on the back of pickup trucks and twisted souls plotting in apartments or garages, they pose an enormous danger to civilians and must be stopped. But they do not threaten our national existence.” Obama said.
It can be recalled late last year that the business tycoon. Trump, called for the total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States, which Obama has criticized.
“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,” Trump said in a statement.
Despite his anti-Muslim comments, the billionaire businessman Trump is still leading the race to represent the Republican party in the forthcoming U.S Presidential election which will be decided on November 8, 2016.
