Rivers, (An24) – An audio tape of Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, threatening to kill officials of the  Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, if they failed to rigged the just concluded River state Assembly re-run has surfaced online.

According to the audio tape which was uploaded online by Sahara Reporters, Governor Wike, in a telephone conversation, was caught making arranging payments to INEC officials in exchange for their help to allegedly rig the election for PDP candidates in Etche, Khana, Ikwerre.

The governor threatened to deal with and kill officials who he suggested had been paid if they failed to deliver.

Noting that “Ikwere Local Government did it”, he warned that if others failed to deliver he would make sure that they did not leave the state.

He said: “If it’s that one, she should return whatever…

“I’m going to make sure that I kill him in this state…just don’t worry.”

“Call that coordinator of Plateau that he should warn his man in Khana…that he should return whatever we gave to him that if he does rubbish…if he tries it, I will make sure that he never leaves this state.

“If he is playing with people….he thinks he will collect and they will begin to do rubbish. Tell him that I said he will see what I will do to him.”

However, reported that sources within the state government claim the audio recording was doctored by Sahara Reporters.

According to the report, the government sources claim the audio was an attempt by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its supporters to shift attention from the “gravity of electoral crimes committed by agents of the Federal Government caught on video across Rivers State”.

It quoted the Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Social Media, Oraye Franklin as saying, “There is nothing technology cannot do.”
