Cameroonian striker, Christian Bassogog has been named the most valuable Player of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2017) after helping Cameroon to win an unlikely triumph on Sunday at the Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville.

Bassogog, 21, was at his usual destructive form in the 2-1 comeback win over Egypt to give the Indomitable Lions their first continental trophy in 15 years.

The Denmark-based midfielder has also been recognised for impressing throughout the group stages during which Hugo Broos’ side were unbeaten, before turning up massive displays in the knockout stages where he bagged a late second to bury Ghana in the semifinal.

Bassogog, who made his debut in a Fifa World Cup qualifier against Zambia in November, becomes the first Cameroonian to win the prize since Rigobert Song in 2002 while he also follows in the footsteps of some of the biggest names on the continent to have been so honoured.
