Nigerian Footballer Slumps and Dies On Pitch

Nigerian defender Henry Obiekwu on Monday, February 13, slumped and died during a friendly game in Enugu State.

Obiekwu was playing in a friendly game with Samba FC on Monday, at the UNEC Stadium when he complained of a chest pain.

The deceased was said to have been replaced during the friendly match but later slumped.

He was rushed to the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre in Enugu where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The defender is the younger brother of ex-Nigeria international Kingsley Obiekwu who represented Nigeria at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

He started his playing career in 2003 with Hard Madrid FC of Ibadan an  Amateur Division 1 club side.

The later defender reportedly returned to Enugu at the end of 2016.
