Rotimi Akeredolu Sworn In As Ondo Governor

Ondo, (AN24) –  Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) has been sworn in as the executive governor of Ondo state.

Akeredolu took oath of office at exactly 11:34am to become the sixth executive governor of the state.

The former NBA President takes over from the former governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who has governed the state for eight years.

The event which took place in Akure, the Ondo state capital was well attended by  leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its supporters.

Notable names at the event include: the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki;former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba; Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; Chief Bisi Akande; National leader of the All Progresives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosu; Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, among others.

Recall that Akeredolu emerged as Ondo state governor after defeating his main challenger, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akeredolu according to the result announced by the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. A. Ambali, Akeredolu won the election with 244,842 votes to defeat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who polled 150,380 votes.

Chief Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy, ( AD) had 126,889 votes.

Governor Akeredolu is the sixth elected governor of the state – the first being Michael Ajasin in 1979 under the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN.
