DSS Vs Magu: Ezekwesili Blast Buhari, Says His Government Is Making Mockery Of Its Anti-Corruption War

By Philips Sunday

Abuja, (AN24) – Former Minister of Education and Co-Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Group, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari led government over the current disagreement between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Ezekwesili described the controversy surrounding Magu’s confirmation as a National disgrace, adding that the Federal Government was making a mockery of the anti-corruption war, which was the foundation of its campaign.

The former Education Minister made this comment in series of tweets a few hours after the Senate refused to confirm the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, as the substantive head of the anti-graft agency for the second time.

Condemning the decision, Ezkwesili said: “I tweeted extensively on this issue when @NGRSenate first rejected @officialEFCC Magu. For 2nd one, I’ve tweeted Bible verses for Senators.

” Between Presidency of @MBuhari & the @NGRSenate of @bukolasaraki whatever game is being played with @officialEFCC is a NATIONAL DISGRACE.

” A Govt that campaigned on Anti-Corruption is making a MOCKERY of its war. PITIFUL. @MBuhari @NGRSenate @bukolasaraki @officialEFCC.

Recall that the Senate earlier today, rejected Magu for the second time citing a damning report by the Department of State Services (DSS) as the reason for its decision.

In December 2016, the Red chamber also rejected Mr. Magu as EFCC chairman after the DSS declared him unfit for the position.

Meanwhile, upon his re-nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari, the DSS insisted on its report, notifying the Senate in a fresh letter that it had made its position on Magu’s screening known in its first report.

Displeased with this, Ezekwesili questioned why President Buhari re-nominated Magu despite being privy to the report of the DSS, calling on the Presidency to provide an explanation for the action to Nigerians.

She tweeted: “” Presidency should explain to Citizens why Prez @MBuhari who is privy to DSS report on Magu of @officialEFCC renominated him to @NGRSenate .

The former Education Minister also accused the Buhari administration of putting the credibility of the anti-corruption war in doubt, even as she urged citizens to demand an effective anti-corruption war, warning that ignoring the need of such a war against anti-corruption would be to the detriment of the country.

“I don’t know what % of Citizens still have any expectation of Good from @NGRSenate of @bukolasaraki . That is all the FEEDBACK they DESERVE.

“For Presidency of @MBuhari you have dug the anti-corruption war into a Credibility Deficit HOLE. Will you DIG OUT? @NGRSenate @bukolasaraki.

“Citizens, WE ignore necessity for an EFFECTIVE anti-corruption war at OUR peril. Corruption KILLS. @MBuhari @NGRSenate @bukolasaraki.

“Finally, for all our Politicians, there is a scripture by Apostle Paul that says: “God is not mocked”. @MBuhari @NGRSenate @bukolasaraki. She tweeted.
