Ace American Director, Jonathan Demme, whose career ranged from the David Byrne documentary “Stop Making Sense” to the Oscar-winning “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Philadelphia,” has died.

He died this morning in New York at the age of 73.

He died as a cause of esophageal cancer and complications from heart disease, according to a source close to the family.

He was originally treated for the disease in 2010, but suffered from a recurrence in 2015, and his condition deteriorated in recent weeks.

“I can confirm that Jonathan passed away early this morning in his Manhattan apartment, surrounded by his wife, Joanne Howard, and three children,” his publicist said in a statement.

May his soul rest in peace (Amen)
