Warri, (An24) – Princess Shola Daibo, Accord party candidate, has been declared as winner of the by-election into the vacant seat of the Delta State House of Assembly in Warri-South Constituency 1 by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday.
Mr. Olatunbosun Olusaya, INEC returning officer and the local collation officer made the declaration at the end of collation of results in Nana College, Warri, centre for the collation of final results in the presence of agents of the various participating political parties.
Daibo scored 5,546 votes of the 7,837 total numbers of valid votes at the poll.
All Progressives Congress candidate, Prince Stanley Emiko, polled 2,010 votes to come second.
The Peoples Democratic Party came a distant third with 183 votes.
Of the 8,103 accredited voters, 263 votes were rejected.
Princess Daibo is replacing Mrs Omawumi Udoh who died at a London hospital after a protracted illness in 2016.
Meanwhile, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barito Kphagih, in a preliminary assessment, described the turnout of voters as “low.”
Kphagih, who was on a supervisory tour of the voting units, told Vanguard at the Yonwuren Primary School, Ugbuwangue that, “The exercise has been peaceful except for here (Ward 4 Unit 1&2, Ugbuwangue).
“We issued specific identification tags for party agents through the party leaders, but here, people wear strange party cards as agents and supervisors contrary to the ones we duly accredited, but we have spoken to them, and they have listened,” he stated.
