Nigerian Army Denies Killing 8 Armed Youth In Cross River
The 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Calabar has debunked a report that its troops killed eight armed youths in Ikot-Offiong Community in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman for the brigade, Capt. Kayode Owolabi in a statement on Tuesday said the report was false and baseless.
“The attention of the Headquarters of 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Calabar, has been drawn to a recent publication alleging that soldiers killed eight armed youths from Cross River.
“We can emphatically state that what was reported was blown out of proportion.
“The facts remain that Ikot-Offiong Community in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River and Oku-Iboku Community in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, share a boundary.
“Overtime, communal clashes have been recorded within the general area, with some destruction of lives and property.
“We want to state that this story in particular is baseless and has no iota of truth,” he said.
He gave the assurance that joint security agencies were on ground in both communities to checkmate criminal activities.
