A motor vehicle incident in Manhattan’s bustling Times Square has left at least 13 people injured, fire officials said.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as people panicked at the world famous tourist destination in the aftermath of the incident.

The New York Police Department says the incident is being treated as an accident, based on early information.

The driver had driven the red Honda sedan against traffic and onto the sidewalk, striking pedestrians.

The car crashed into a pole and came to rest at 45th Street and Broadway before police took the driver away.

The New York Police Department has closed down the area in midtown Manhattan as pictures emerge of scattered clothing and a pedestrian wrapped in blooded blankets.
