Again, NNPC GMD Maikanti Baru Loses Son

Tragedy has again struck the Maikanti’s family as the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru, lost his son in Dubai.
Baru’s son reportedly died on Thursday, May 18, in Unted Arab Emirate, UAE.
Earlier in April, his mother, Hajiya Fatima Baru, died in her hometown of Misau in Bauchi State.
Baru’s sister had also died weeks ago on the eve of his trip to Houston, Texas United States, for the OTC conference.
Last year, guests attending his daughter’s wedding died in an accident.
57 years old Baru is from Jama’are in Bauchi State, in the North-East geopolitical zone, but grew up in Jos, Plateau State.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and is well respected within the profession.
He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with a first class honours. He also holds a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering.
Until his appointment, he was Special Adviser (Upstream) to the Minister of State for Petroleum.
Before he was appointed adviser, he was NNPC’s Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production.
He served as director of the NNPC-owned Carlson Services (UK) Limited between December 7, 2004 and January 25, 2007.
