Five Delegates To N’ Delta Summit In Akure Die In Auto Crash

No fewer than five delegates to the second national council meeting of the Niger Delta holding in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the Local Government Area of Ondo State‎, die in motor accident today.

The delegates, whose identities have yet to be ascertained, were travelling from Akure to Igbokoda for the summit, which Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was to chair.

About four other delegates were injured in the accident that occurred at Ode-Aye, a town along Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the accident, said the accident occurred as a result of high speed.

He said three vehicles were involved in it, adding that the vehicles were damaged beyond recognition.

Joseph also informed that the corpses had been deposited at the mortuary of the state specialist hospital, Okitipupa, where the injured victims were also receiving treatment.

He said efforts were on by the state government and the Police to rescue the injured victims.
