Abuja(AN24)-President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate disengagement from the Federal Civil Service of Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina. The Presidential directive follows an expose on the illegal and fraudulent recall into the civil service of Mr. Maina by the Ministry of Interior.

This was stated Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. Mr. Femi Adesina via his Twitter Handle.

Recall that the International Police Organization, INTERPOL, in 2016, issued a red alert on the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC wrote to the body, declaring Mr. Maina as ”wanted fugitive” in Nigeria.

The commission had charged Maina to the Federal High Court on July 10, 2015 with charge number FHC/ABJ/297/2015.

Maina faced prosecution for an alleged embezzlement of N2bn pension funds at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.

The source added that the leadership of the EFCC was of the view that Maina might be hiding at the United Arab Emirates.

Maina, who had fled Nigeria since 2015, and who was subsequently sacked in accordance with the Federal Civil Service Rules, surreptitiously returned to the country without any of the country’s security agencies knowing and was reabsorbed to the civil service with a promotion as Director in charge of Human Resources.

A news report by Premium Times exposed how Mr. Maina was fraudulently reinstated. Obviously rattled and embarrassed by the news report, the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau cleared himself of complicity in the recall of Mr. Maina, saying that the reinstatement was done by the Head Of Service.
