Nigeria on Friday recorded her first victory at the ongoing World Cup in Russia after defeating Iceland with a resounding 2 nil courtesy of power strikes from Ahmed Musa in the second half of the tension soaked match.
Nigeria made four shot attempts in the first half of the match but stepped up during the second half.
The match kicked off at 3:45 and the second half started at 4:03pm Nigerian time. Just in a minute, the first shot was made by Nigeria but didn’t go through. After 2 minutes Victor Moses made a very nice pass to Ahmed Moses who made a very sounding goal.
Nigeria had a very great defense during the match against Iceland. A freekick was made by Iceland but was caught by the Nigerian goal keeper.
The Iceland player, Sigurdsson who had a head injury during the first goal from Nigeria goes on substitution because he could not keep up. Victor Moses made a distance shot but didn’t pull through.
Musa also gave a shot but missed because it was 2inches above the bar but surprised us by coming back after 1 minute to give another sounding goal at exactly 75:00 minutes.
The Iceland’s tried to make an attempt but goes off with an Iceland player going after the ball but was pushed to the ground by the Nigerian player, Ekong.
The referee decided to review it and gave Iceland a penalty shootout which went over the bar. 5minutes to go and Iceland decided to try their luck with another goal but missed the attempt.
Additional time of 6 minutes was added to the game and the Nigerian Mikel obi gets a hand injury trying to kick the ball away but he decided not to go on substitution. The match ended at Nigeria 2 and Iceland nil with the two Nigeria goals that was scored by Musa. Nigeria would be playing their next match against Argentina on Tuesday.
