Croatia will face the Three Lions of England in the Semi-final of the FIFA 2018 World Cup after defeating host Russia 4-3 on penalties.

Denis Cheryshev opened the score for Russia on the 31st minute but Andrej Kramaric equalized 8 minutes later for Croatia to end the first half 1-1.

The two sides then struggled to find the back of the net in the second half with no success for either Russia nor Croatia thereby taking the game into an extra time.

Domagoj Vida gave Croatia the lead on the 101st minutes in the extra time but Mario Fernandes equalized for Russia on the 115th minutes to end the game 2-2, which eventually meant penalties was the only way to get a winner for the last semi-final slot.

The game, however, ended 3-4 on penalties in favour of Croatia with Fedor Smolov and Mario Fernandes missing their penalties for Russia while Mateo Kovacic failed to convert his for Croatia.

The victory means Croatia will face England who had earlier in the day defeated Sweden 2-0 to send the coach Gareth Southgate tutored side through to the Semi-final of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in twenty-eight (28) years.
