Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed is facing resistance from current senator representing Kwara South, Rafiu Ibrahim as he reportedly declared for Senate.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Saurday declared his intention to vie for the Kwara South Senatorial Ticket on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in the forth coming general elections.
The governor who announced this via his twitter account on Saturday, said he had picked up the PDP Nomination Form for the Senatorial Primary Election.
He writes: “In response to calls by my people and in keeping with my strong desire to upscale the excellent work we have done in all three zones of the state, through effective, purposeful representation, I have picked up the PDP nomination form for Kwara South Senatorial District.’
Governor Ahmed has severally defended his recent movement to the PDP on the grounds that his former party limited access to platforms for securing benefits for the people of Kwara State as a whole. His Senatorial ambition is seen in the light of his strong determination to better represent his people, and provide inclusive leadership in Kwara South.
Meanwhile, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim has also picked his nomination form to return to Senate on the platform on PDP.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking shared pictures on his nomination form on facebook on Saturday.
He has also commenced consultation tour to the seven local government areas in the district.
Political Observers opine the it will be royal rumble in Kwara South as Governor Ahmed and Senator Ibrahim are core loyalists of Senate President, Bukola Saraki who is the political leader in the party.
Although, Saraki has pledged to allow party members to pick candidate of their choice without any form of cohesion but his body language will give people direction of aspirant to support.
