The governor of Lagos state, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday presented the 2019 budget of N852.317 billion to the State House of Assembly for approval.
AN24 reports that the 2019 budget is N287.68 billion lesser than that of 2018 which stood at N1.04 trillion.
Explaining the shortfall in the 2019 budget, the Governor said the budget performance of 2018 was put into consideration before preparing the 2019 budget.
“The overall 2018 budget stood at 60 percent and that was put into consideration in preparing the 2019 budget.
“The 2019 budget is all-encompassing and it will cater for all Lagosians”, Ambode said.
The budget presentation came two days after the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, brokered peace among the governor and the Lagos State lawmakers.
The House of Assembly had threatened to impeach Ambode for alleged gross misconduct, including spending before budget approval.
However, while speaking after a meeting of the Governor’s Advisory Committee (GAC), in Lagos on Sunday, Tinubu had said: “We examined the grievances on both sides. As leaders, we also looked into areas where there has to be a compromise.
“In order to build institutions and encourage consensus-building, we have to do what is right.
“There is no impeachment. Let there be more communication and consensus-building and understanding. All these are inbuilt in the democratic system.”
