1. Nigerian Senate Passes Police Trust Fund Bill

The Nigerian Senate has passed the Nigerian Police Trust Fund Bill (HB 1583). Africa News24 (AN24) reports that the Senate passed the bill on Tuesday, April 9.

2. Saraki Gives Senate Committee Deadline To Submit Report On 2019 Budget

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, has given the Senate Appropriation Committee until Thursday to submit its report on the 2019 budget. Africa News24 (AN24) reports that the Senate President gave the deadline on Tuesday, April 9.

3. 2019 Poll: Atiku Makes Fresh Move To Unseat Buhari

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reportedly employed the services of a United States lobbyist firm to advance his challenge of the outcome of the February 23 presidential polls. Atiku had rejected the outcome of the 2019 presidential poll, alleging electoral irregularities. He filed a petition before the presidential electoral tribunal, seeking claim a mandate, allegedly stolen him by President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

4. Police Dismiss Nine Senior Officers, Demote Six For Misconduct

The Police Service Commission has approved with immediate effect the dismissal of nine senior Police officers for gross misconduct and reduction in rank of another six officers for different cases of misconduct. The PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said in a statement on Tuesday that this was part of the outcome of the fifth plenary meeting of the Commission, which held in Abuja on March 26 and 27, 2019, presided over by its Chairman, Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector-General of Police.

5. Gov. Ambode Inaugurates Transition Committee

Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday inaugurated a 20-member Transition Committee that would be saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a seamless transition to the next administration on May 29, 2019. Inaugurating the Committee, Governor Ambode, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, said a smooth transition to the next administration was imperative to ensure that the machinery of government continues to run smoothly without any hitch, considering the economic importance of Lagos to Nigeria.

6. Buhari Is Clearly A Man Of His Words, Says Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is a man of his word, evidenced by the ongoing development in the Niger Delta region. Osinbajo said this in a speech he delivered at the maiden matriculation of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta state.

7. Killings: Shehu Sani Faults Governors Who Spend Weekdays In Abuja

Shehu Sani, a senator representing Kaduna central, has said that most Nigerian Governors spend Mondays to Thursdays in Abuja while their states are being ravaged and attacked by bandits. He said that they spend weekdays in Abuja in the name of meeting President Muhammadu Buhari.

House of Representatives members loyal to Femi Gbajabiamila, majority leader of the House has wooed lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support Gbajabiamila’s speakership ambition. A member of Gbajabiamila’s camp, according to PUNCH, disclosed this as he said that plots by the opposition to caucus to cause conflict in the APC have been uncovered.
