A 54-year-old woman, Olabisi Olawoye, who allegedly posed as a Police Superintendent, on Friday appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Lamido Umar Chikaire, the candidate of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has withdrawn his petition challenging the victory of Senator Danjuma Goje as winner of the Gombe Central senatorial district election held on February 23.

Chikaire and the PRP confirmed the withdrawal of their petition at the Gombe State National Assembly election tribunal on Thursday.

Mohammed Babangida and A.M Inuwa, counsel to the petitioners, informed the tribunal that Chikaire and the PRP decided to withdraw their petition based on two grounds.

The lawyers listed the reasons as the senatorial candidate being urged by his family to drop the petition and focus more on his business.

Justice Raphael Ajuwa, the tribunal’s Chairman, subsequently granted the prayers of the petitioners.

“Going by the date for election petition and having heard the pleas of lawyers of the litigants, this panel will grant the motion for the withdrawal of this petition,” Justice Ajuwa ruled.

Chikaire was a former Chief of Staff and a longtime associate to Senator Goje.

Senator Goje, a former governor of Borno State, was declared winner of the Gombe Central senatorial district election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
