Mother, Son Arrested For Beating Father To Death

Some gunmen invaded the residence of the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Higher Education, Chief Clement Uhembe, in the early hours of Sunday, killing Terlumum Hemba, a 400-level student of the Federal University, Lafia.

Hafsat Aliyu, 50, and her son, Babangida Usman, have been arrested by men of the Niger State Police Command for allegedly beating her husband Ali Haruna to death.

The incident took place on April 13, 2019, behind Shango Primary School in Chanchaga Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the deceased, during a disagreement, was attacked by his wife and son.

According to Usman, his father was fond of assaulting his mother and he merely attempted to protect his mother from the father’ s wrath when he slumped and died.

“My mother was not safe with my father because of his temperament. Every day, there would be issues that would escalate to a fight. I never knew he would die, I was only protecting my mother.”

Mohammad Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspects admitted to the crime.

Abubakar said Usman and his mother inflicted injuries on the deceased, who died while being taken to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital for treatment.

He added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
