Former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has been elected the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives.

Gbajabiamila, the longest-serving lawmaker representing Surulete 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State defeated Umar Bago representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency with 282 votes out of 385

While the sorting of votes was ongoing, Bago walked up to Gbajabiamila to congratulate him and this elicited a thunderous round of applause among their colleagues.

The lawmaker, who was endorsed by the All Progressives Congress, has been minority leader and also majority leader.
