A 35-year-old sickle cell patient, Bunmi Aderinsola who is also suffering from paralysis and leg ulcer, has explained that she attempted to commit suicide three times because her suffering has been too much.

Aderinsola, a graduate of Industrial and Labour Relations from  the Olabisi Onabanjo University who has been unable to get a job because of her condition told  AN24 that she wondered why her attempts at suicide had failed.

“ I am appealing to all to come to my aid. My doctor said that delay may be dangerous if I should take it with levity. The pains I go through are so intense. I have no one but God.  I don’t know why people who want to die live longer than those who are scared to die. See, I can write a whole book on my journey with sickle cell in life.

“Please,  help me change my story and wipe my aged mother’s tears because she can’t stand to see her dying daughter she has no means to save,” she appealed to Nigerians.

Aderinsola said she was diagnosed with sickle cell when she was one. She said by the time she turned 15 all through the time she became 20, she was more or less living in the hospital.

Further narrating her ordeal, Aderinsola said, “A few months to my 21st birthday I had jaundice which caused me to lose my sight completely although God helped me to regain it after a year. I was able to return to school.  By 2015,  my condition had worsened.”

Explaining the problem with her leg, she said, “I was feeling cold and all of a sudden, my legs got paralyzed.  There was no way I could, carry, stretch and fold them.  I went through herbal treatment and my legs started functioning again but they got swollen and started having cracks which became wounds. Whenever a wound heals, another will erupt.”

Aderinsola who walks with a limp and with the aid of crutches said her condition had affected her business as well as her relationships with men.  She needs N7.5 million to go got treatment in India and  is pleading with Nigerians to contribute funds  to help pay for her treatment.
