Lionheart dropped from the Oscars race

Nigerian movie “Lionheart” has been disqualified from the Oscars race in the Best International Feature Film category.

The movie which was produced by actress Genevieve Nnaji had been recently viewed and determined not to qualify in a category that until this year was known as Best Foreign Language Film.

The reason given by the committee was that the movie dialogue was partially in the Igbo language of Nigeria and mostly in English.

This violates an Academy rule that entries in the category must have “a predominantly non-English dialogue track.”

Lionheart is the first Nigerian film ever submitted to the Oscars.
