Appeal Court Upholds Makinde's Election As Oyo Governor

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Oyo State governorship election, Mr Adebayo Adelabu.

Upholding the decision of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, Justice Abubakar Yahaya affirmed that Mr Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the winner of the election in the state.

The lead judge however maintained that the Tribunal did not properly evaluate the documents that were presented by the appellants, therefore leading to a miscarriage of justice.

Lead counsel to the governor, Eyitayo Jegede, informed newsmen that Makinde remains the governor as long as there has been no counter directive by the appellate court on his victory.

The lead counsel to APC, Adeboye Shobanjo, on his part, agreed with the court for allowing the appeal to hold and added that the Tribunal delivered a one-sided judgement.
