The Senate, on Monday, disowned the proposed hate speech bill following the outrage that it was met with on social media.
The acting spokesperson for the red chamber, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, told newsmen in Abuja that bill was solely being sponsored by the Deputy Chief Whip, Sabi Abdullahi.
“Contrary to widespread impression, the bill is not the idea of the ninth Senate. It is neing sponsored by Senator Abdullahi based on his conviction.
“It is unfortunate that the Peoples Democratic Party are skewing the facts to accuse the Senate of proposing a bill to aid President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged third term agenda
“The fate of the bill would be determined on the floor of the Senate after a robust debate by senators,” he said.
