The Nigerian Federal Government is set to go toe to toe with former senator Buruji Kashamu on December 5 in what is expected to be the final legal battle aimed at extraditing him to the United States of America (USA), for trial in an alleged drug trafficking offence.

The matter which would be heard in the supreme Court, has the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as major respondents in Kashamu’s appeals seeking to stop the government from executing two Appeal Court judgements against him.

In his notice of appeal to the Supreme Court, Kashamu had complained that the court of appeal erroneously voided and set aside the two judgements of the Federal High Court barring the Federal Government from extraditing him to America.

The Supreme Court is to resit on the judgments delivered in favour of the Federal Government by the Lagos State Court of Appeal on May 4 2018.

Both parties have been briefed on the hearing date through issuance of hearing notices and are expected to be in court on the aforementioned date.
