Prominent Lagos monarch, the Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi has urged the the Federal Government and the academic staff unions to resolve their issues amicably in the interest of the students.
The monarch made this call while addressing newsmen at the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, where he was conferred with a honorary degree alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan, Entertainment star, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Mr Sow Agba from Togo.
The monarch, who was honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in Public Administration praised the effort of the founder and chancellor, Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, applauding his vision that charted the course for other private universities.
“It is my first time of entering this university and with what I have seen here, I think it is appropriate that I thank the founder and Chancellor, Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, on behalf of the thousands of lives that have been moulded at this citadel and to the many other institutions that have come after you, following your vision, twenty years ago.
“There is a huge gap for skilled workers across all strata of the economy and this is being filled by nationals from neighbouring countries. Unless there is more investment in institutions where the youths can learn these skills, we won’t be making progress in addressing the scourge of unemployment,” Elegushi stated.
