The National Spokesperson of the Social Democratic Party(SDP) Hon. Yemi Akinbode has joined the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a call to the national stakeholders to concede the presidency to the Southwest as compensation for the role played by the leaders of the zone in the enthronement of APC presidency in 2015.

He made the call today at a rally held in his honour where the Ekiti State Party leaders welcomed him to the Party in Are Ekiti.

Speaking to the monmouth crowd who tropped out to receive him, the former SDP National Publicity Secretary said ” the decision to join hands with the leadership of the APC in Ekiti State is in line with the decision of the National Executive Committee of the SDP which culminated in the support and endorsement of President Buhari for a second term in the build up to the 2019 general elections. You are aware that the SDP and APC reached an agreement in Feburary 2019 to work together in furtherance of the SDP goal to deepen our nascent democracy. Going further therefore, we must ensure we consolidate the gains and benefits of that agreement. As a stakeholder in this process, I have decided to join the APC to strengthen the process for national unity and progress.

On the clamour by the APC Southwest caucus to produce the presidential flag bearer of the Party in 2023, Akinbode described the move as a right step in the right direction. He called on all the APC national stakeholders not to forget the role played by the Southwest leaders in the re-engineering and repositioning of the Party in the build up to its victory in 2015.
He said” If politics is about performance and party loyalty, the southwest has demonstrated that, so presenting a Yoruba presidency in 2023 is an opportunity to reward the zone for their steadfastness, diligence and loyalty.
Let this be a lesson to all Nigerians that loyalty to ones’ course is a good virtue that we must all imbibe.

The statement continued” The Southwest has reach a threshold where it has become imperative that the APC must compensate its loyalists for the 2015 and 2019 landmark political achievement. Let us be united by this purpose and goal. It is time that the southwest close ranks and work together as one family to realise its aim in 2023.
Speaking earlier at the event, the State Party Chairman, Bar. Paul Omotosho who was represented by Irepudun/ifelodun local government chairman Hon. Ogundele welcome Hon. Akinbode and his team of loyalists to the APC, promising them of a level playing ground. In his own speech the APC Chairmanship Candidate in the Saturday local government election? Hon. Shina Olawale Ogunleye, expressed his gratitude and goodwill to Hon Akinbode, a man he described as a “big fish in the APC Ocean”. I am happy that you and your team have come to join us in the APC. You are great a man of honour and integrity. I know your antecedents and capability and ‘am sure the APC in Ekiti State will benefit from your wealth of experience. We would work together to take the party to the next level.
On behalf of our leaders especially, our amiable governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi , we welcome you to the progressive family”
Hunderds of SDP party leaders and supporters also decamped to the APC at the event.
