Two aides of President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina and Bashir Ahmad have reacted to the Punch newspaper editorial alleging that his administration has been lawless and high-handed.

The piece titled “Buhari’s Lawlessness: Our Stand” addressed the recklessness of security agencies under Buhari, the disregard for court orders as well as the poor human rights record of his administration.

Punch said it would now begin to refer to the President as General Muhammadu Buhari since his administration was re-enacting the same brutality that characterised his government when he was a military Head of State.

It also said that the administration would be referred to as a regime “until it purges itself of insufferable contempt for the rule of law.”

Reacting to the viral editorial , Adesina tweeted: If you decide to call him Major General, he wasn’t dashed the rank, he earned it. So, you are not completely out of order. The fact that you can do so is even another testimony to press freedom in Nigeria.

Ahmad also tweeted: ‘Major General’ will forever be attached to his name, he earned it. Calling him that is another form of RESPECT and it doesn’t change the fact that Muhammadu Buhari is President, Federal Republic of Nigeria till 2023. Fun fact: huge numbers of his supporters voted the General”
