The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu has on Thursday, ordered that the All Progressive Congress (APC) Benin rally scheduled for Friday, be suspended as there could be no guarantee for safety.
The rally was planned to welcome former gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his followers who had decided to defect to the APC.
Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, told pressmen at a conference in Abuja that the IGP had made this known to him in a letter which he received at about 5pm at the Police Headquarters in Abuja.
He regretted that the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole was leading the party to great division, stating that Oshiomole had been suspended from the party in the state and had no say in decisions taken in the state.
The IGP had earlier granted the party’s state chapter permission to hold its mega rally to receive Ize-Iyamu and over 30,000 PDP members into the APC.
Governor Godwin Obaseki said he was not aware of any APC Rally in the state, and urged members of the APC in the state to have nothing to do with the event.
