Nine-Year-Old Drowns In Cross River
A nine-year-old boy, identified simply as Christian, has drowned in a river in Calabar, Cross River State.
He drowned while swimming with a group of boys when he was allegedly sent to fetch water.
Witnesses said he jumped in to bathe with the other boys, but was unable to make it out, warranting the involvement of a search party.
The search ensued from Thursday morning when the incident occurred, till his body was found afloat by evening.
Christian lived with his aunt until his death.
His parents resided separate from each other according to a neighbour, Ibanga Peter.
Peter said Christian’s father had been made aware of the incident and asked that his son should not be buried until he arrived.
Christian’s aunt denied sending him to fetch water as alleged.
