President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday ceremoniously dropped wreaths I honour of fallen heroes of the Nigerian Military to mark the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The event which took place in Abuja, had dignitaries from top government parastatals such as the Senate and House of Representatives in attendance.
January 15th is set aside to honour fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the good of the nation, as well as the ones who continue to fight in service to Nigeria and world Peace as part of United Nations Peace Support Operations.
Military personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Nigerian Legion all gather today at the National Cenotaph and Cenotaph of the 36 States of the Federation.
AFRD was originally marked on November 11 to celebrate the fallen heroes of the First and Second World War, but was changed to January 15 being the last day of the Civil War which ended in 1970.
The Nigerian civil war, otherwise known as the Biafran War, began in 1967 and ended on January 15th, 1970.
