The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu has said that the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus was caused by corruption.

He made the claim at the passing out parade of cadets of the EFCC Detective Inspector Course-5 on Tuesday.

281 cadets passed out at the event which held at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.

The event was attended by President Buhari, Governors of Kaduna and Kebbi States, Nasir el-Rufai and Atiku Bagudu respectively, among others.

Magu said, “Corruption is the biggest strategy to humankind. Your Excellency, corruption is worse than all the diseases now running about. And I strongly believe, Your Excellency, that even the coronavirus is caused by corruption.”

He said the EFCC had managed to secure 1,218 convictions in 2019, a significant rise from the 103 recorded convictions in 2015 when he took over.

An24.net understands that some time in 2018, Magu blamed corruption for causing cancer, and has said that lateness to work is also a form of corruption.
