There were mixed opinions on social media as a clip of gospel singer, Tope Alabi, dancing “Zanku” went viral on Thursday.
In the video, the Evangelist could be seen wearing a Versace branded white ensemble and chewing gum while she showed off her dancing skills.
A Facebook user, Felix Dare posted the clip on his page and captioned it “This is Evangelist Tope Alabi oo. What is this world turning to for God’s sake? The Tope Alabi I knew 10 years ago was not like this o”.
Responding to criticism on a programme aired on TVC, the singer said she was praising God for being alive to bury her father.
“In a nutshell, I needed that dance. It was at my father’s burial. The praise concert was organized by other gospel artistes for us to worship after the wake. It is not easy to bury your father. Some people die before their parents. If you are spiritual, you would understand that dance was needed,” she said.
However , her fans were divided over the video as some supported her while others expressed disappointment.
A YouTube user, Mayowa wrote ” Did she kill someone? Was she caught in the act? She danced and the internet is scattering. Ha!”
Another user, Itunuoluwa Adeoye wrote ” I am so disappointed in Tope Alabi. Your song is an inspiration to people but you are letting them down. This is beyond natural.”
A Twitter user, Adekanbi tweeted “How does her genre of music affect her lifestyle? Even the Bible says David danced until his robe fell off. I don’t see an issue here.”
