Mixed reactions trailed the claims made by a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Maurice Iwu that his team had developed a potential cure for the deadly coronavirus.
Iwu, the Chief Executive Officer of Bioresources Institute of Nigeria (BION), a research organisation, said his team had worked on solutions to the virus since 2015. He is also an expert in Pharmacognosy.
In 2014, he had said bitter kola could serve as a cure to Ebola virus, a claim which was largely debunked by the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
However, some Twitter users supported Iwu while others opposed his claims, making references to the controversial 2007 elections during which he was the chairman of INEC.

Most people who slander Maurice Iwu don't know him. Man was having a stellar career in pharmacy until INEC messed up his reputation.

World President, you're not Mr. PERFECT but I believe you're doing great, extending your hands fellowship to Professor Maurice Iwu is a welcome idea and I hope it will yield a positive result, to avert this global menace.

In saner climes, governments coordinates, takes their time to actually verify all claims of a CURE not brush the personality aside due to his infamy with the INEC

Any word from this stammerer shouldn't be taken for it until proven by trusted individuals.
His antecedents while he was chairman of INEC is enough to confirm him as a pathological liar. https://t.co/Toqi7B7u30
