Osibanjo, Small Arms Committee Commence Security Reports Review

A Review of the report of the Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons has commenced on Monday under the leadership of
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The meeting, which was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is expected to aid the Federal Government to solutions to the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had at the last National Security Council meeting, asked Osinbajo to preside over the review committee.

Others who attended the meeting were the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu; Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai-Abubakar; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman; Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama; Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col Hameed Ali (retd.); and the Chairman of PRESCOM, Ambassador Emmanuel Imohe.

There was no briefing as the meeting ended, but Osinbajo’s media aide, Mr Laolu Akande, said in a statement that Buhari already directed Osinbajo and the members to come up with “effective and prompt solutions.”

The Department of State Services and the Ministry of Defence were represented at the meeting.
