Emir Sanusi Faces Kano Assembly Probe

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has been appointed the Chairman, Advisory Board in Nigeria by 1Million Teachers Inc, a Canada-based organization.

The Kano State House of Assembly has on Wednesday resolved to probe the Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II for allegedly spearheading the violation of the culture, tradition and religious tenets of the people of the state.

The House of Assembly instituted an eight-man panel led by Deputy Speaker Hamisu Chidere to investigate Sanusi following petition submitted by an individual and a non- governmental organisation.

During the Assembly’s plenary, the Chairman of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Zubairu Hamza-Masu, said he received a petition from one Muhammad Mukhtar of Ja’en Yamma quarters in Gwale Local Government Area. He said he received a second petition from the Kano State Society for the Promotion of Education and Culture headed by Muhammad Bello-Abdullahi.

He said the petitioners accused Mr Sanusi of unethical conducts that contradicted the culture and tradition of Kano people.

The panel is expected to investigate the allegations and submit their report to the assembly in one week.

The petition comes weeks after the emir accused the northern leaders of negligence to cases of insecurity and poverty bedevilling the Northern region.

Sanusi has previously been accused of misappropriation of funds meant for Kano Emirate by the Kano state government.
