The Lagos University Teaching Hopsital has denied unfounded claims that coronavirus tests are being run at the rate of N1.2m
The hospital cleared the air via its official Twitter handled and said tests for the deadly virus are run for free.
Responding to a Twitter user who asked if the rumours were true, LUTH tweeted: “The test is free in LUTH. However, it has to be at the request of the Consultant in charge of Infectious Disease Unit of LUTH.”
The rumour started with a Twitter user, @coolfrancess, who claimed the teaching hospital asked a relative to pay the sum of N1.2m to get tested for coronavirus.
She tweeted: “My dad’s cousin went to luth to get tested for corona virus Nd they told him he had to pay 1.2million naira ..lol..we are not ready.”
Other Twitter users have condemned the rumormonger and reported her account for speaking fake news.

The guy who came on twitter to say that his father went to luth to test for COVID19 and was asked to pay #1. 2m will be somewhere now smiling and happy that his fake info is spreading and taken by gullible Nigerians. The reason we must have social media regulated. #NASS

The thing about hospitals like LUTH is that when you wanna conduct a test, an Invoice is presented to you that says how much its gonna cost you. So Mr/Mrs @Coolfrancess can you pls show that? That is the only thing that can prove u right…

Ok let us all go to LUTH and get our corona virus test done.
I am hearing from a particular section of people that it is free and they have infact done theirs.
If you have the time, kindly make your way to LUTH and request a test.
I will do mine later this week. https://t.co/I3ZqnUwshL

You people came on twitter to lie that Luth is charging 1.2m for a corona virus test.
It's like some of you enjoy it when it's all bad news coming out of Nigeria. pic.twitter.com/bb6RzC9Gaf
