Lagos Police Vows To Enforce Ban On Large Gatherings

The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to enforce the statewide ban on social and religious gatherings following the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease in Lagos.

In a press release signed by Police Public Relations Officer,
Lagos State, Bala Elkana, the force said it had embarked on a massive enforcement of the restriction order.

The statement said “Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the General Public that the Command in compliance with the guidelines and directives issued by both the Federal Government and Lagos State Government on prevention of the spread of Corona virus popularly known as Covid 19 which the World Health Organisation has declared as a pandemic.

“To that effect, the Command has deployed adequate resources across the State to ensure that the orders are fully obeyed. The order imposed bans on social gatherings such as, wedding ceremonies, naming ceremonies, burial ceremonies, parties, clubs and religion gatherings of people more than 50.

“Commercial vehicles carrying passengers above capacity (overloading) are also part of this order. Members of the public are encouraged to avoid overcrowding themselves at bus stops, market places, business places and scene of incidents.”

Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu also urged residents of Lagos State to obey safety regulations.

The press statement noted that the command had commenced market awareness and called on residents to take advantage of the toll free numbers for information and complaints.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government on Saturday, updated the ban to restrict social and religious gatherings to only 20 people. This was after the confirmation of seven new cases in the state.
