COVID-19: Senate Closes Down For Two Weeks

The Senate has closed down all its activities on Tuesday due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease.

The President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, announced this after a closed door session on Tuesday that lasted an hour and ten minutes.

According to Lawan, the Senate will resume plenary 7th of April, 2020.

Last week, the Upper Chamber announced a partial closure of its gallery and stoppage of public hearing from Tuesday 24th March 2020 following the trend of the ravaging Coronavirus, COVID 19 on the economy and the society.

Senator Lawan said the decision to suspend its activities was made by the Senate due to its concerns of COVID-19 spread in the country.

He also said excursions to the Senate by students or other persons have been cancelled.

The move to close down the Senate came after the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari tested positive to the dreadful Coronavirus disease.
