The Supreme Court has affirmed Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has the elected governor of Zamfara State.
The court dismissed the application by Abdulaziz Yari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, seeking the review of the May 24, 2019 judgement which removed APC from power.
The apex court in a judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro said the application was a gross abuse of court, frivolous and grossly vexatious.
Subsequently, the Supreme court awarded the cost of N2m to be paid by the applicant to the respondents.
Furthermore, Justice Okoro held that the apex court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain an application seeking a review of its own judgment as the finality of the judgment of the supreme court is sealed and cannot be reviewed under any guise.
The Supreme Court had ruled that the APC had no candidates having failed to conduct valid primaries ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Justice Okoro, however, on Friday held that the application lacked merit, adding that the apex court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain an application seeking a review of its own judgement.
