The Consul-General of Nigeria in China, Mr Anozie-Madaubuchi Cyril has confronted Chinese officials for the ill-treatement of Nigerians over COVID-19 fears.

A video showing stranded Nigerians roaming on the streets of China, claiming that they were kicked out of hotels over coronavirus fears had gone viral some days back.

In a clip posted online, Cyril could be seen confronting some Chinese official outside the Nigerian Consulate in China.

“It is non-acceptable to the Federal Government of Nigeria. In Nigeria, we have a lot of Chinese, I don’t think you have ever received any information that the government of Nigeria picked them from their various houses and quarantined them.

“Why is Africa and indeed Nigeria being targeted? We have Europeans, Americans, people from Spain, Italy and other countries in Guangzhou.

“COVID-19 started in Wuhan, China and when Chinese nationals travelled into Nigeria that period, they weren’t quarantined. These are Nigerians who live in China, they are not businessmen,” Cyril said.

In the last clip, Cyril was seen requesting for the Chinese Foreign Affairs Officer. He stated that the passport of some Nigerians were seized and needed to be recovered.
